Sustainable Energy Program - join us at the South Kona Green Market to learn about renewable energy options and learn about the West Hawaii Sustainable Energy Grant Program. Solar tours offered for WHSEP grant recipients.

WHSEP Group 4 begins the grant application process.

WHSEP Solar Grant Group 5 begins the grant applicaiton process.

All Our  Relations - exploring the sacred human relationship to plants. This small group by-invitation workshop will convene Hawaii leaders in agriculture, food and healing to  explore our contemporary and ancestral relationship to plants, food, and plant-based products. Special Guests: Hector Valenzuela, University of Hawaii Manoa, Nancy Refeather, Kohala  Center and Kawanui Farm. 9am -1pm including a potluck andlocal foods tamale making.

May 8th

Awakening the Dreamer Sustainability Symposium - join us for a community-based multi-media visioning program offered in conjunction with awakemingthedreamer.org and the Pachamama Alliance   “Our mission is bringing forth an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling , and socially just human presence on Planet Earth. “  

Art & Music 10am-noon, Catered lunch 12-1pm, Symposium 1-5pm; reservations required.

UPCOMING:

How to Build a Solar Dehydrator! With the abundance  of fruit in Hawaii,  dehydration is an excellent means to make  the most of our  bounty. Join us for a hands-on, do-it-yourself workshop that includes building a passive solar unit that you will take home with you. All Island residents are welcome  to attend with scholarships available to participants in the West Hawaii Sustainable  Energy Project region. **2009**

January 29 - April 6th

Americorps NCCC Volunteers are in Hawaii performing national service at One Island and for community partners. Ten enthusiastic volunteers, age 19-25, from all over the US are here to help One Island prepare to open to the  public. Thank you to the NCCC division of Americorps! And a big Mahalo  to the community for the many special opportunties and recognition they are receiving to enrich their Hawaii visit.

March 17-20

Energy  Efficiency Pilot Project with Americorps volunteers and Solar Quest, Teacher meetings, and community outreach.

April 9th

South Kona Green Market Earth  Day Planning Meeting at SKEA, presentation about the West Hawaii  Sustainable  Energy Project to local farmers and  community members, 7pm

April 15th 

4pm    Introductory presentation about the West Hawaii Sustainable Energy Project at the Kona Coffee Farmers Association meeting, Yano Hall, Captain Cook, 4pm.

5:30 pm    Local residents and farmers welcome to attend the break out at 5:30 pm for introduction to grant and loan opportunities and to participate in energy efficiency / solar energy discussions. Yano Hall.

One Island and WHSEP will be participating in the Hawaii  Sustainability Retreat in Pahala presented by the County of Hawaii and the  Kohala Center.

GRANT DUE DATE  Cycle One grant applications due for WHSEP pilot group.

One Island and WHSEP are attending the EcoCollaborative Green Building and Energy Symposium.

August 25th

First One Island GOING GREEN Green Business Award is launched - featuring the Lotus Cafe in the Koloko Park, Kailua Kona with 450 solar PV panels and impressive cost savings. Congratulations!

October 4th

Big Island’s FIRST West Coast Sustainable Energy Fair in conjunction with the American Solar Energy Society nationwide tours. Hosted by  the West Hawaii Sustainable  Energy Project. Stop by our displays at the SOUTH KONA GREEN MARKET 9am-1pm.Sign-ups for October and November WHSEP energy grant workshops welcomed at this event.

Please plan to carpool to reduce our carbon footprint!

One Island staff are attending The Eagle & The Condor training:
Ancient indigenous prophecy of the eagle and the condor speaks about our
time as one of great change and awakening, individually and
globally-bringing forth the merging of heart & mind, science and religion,
and a sense of deep interconnectedness.  Adapted from the
global symposium Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream by the
Pachamama Alliance, The Eagle & The Condor steps into a level of personal
myth and indigenous wisdom from which actions in the world flow with
organic grace.
